DMK president M.K. Stalin on Monday urged the Election Commission (EC) to uphold its impartiality by adhering to the Constitutional responsibility vested upon it.
In a statement here, he said the EC should transfer Tamil Nadu DGP T.K. Rajendran, Intelligence wing IG Satyamurthy and other senior officials and District Collectors who had completed three years of service in same place or position. “Even though the DMK has made representation to the EC, it has not acted upon it and it has created the impression that the EC has left the task of conducting election in Tamil Nadu to the BJP government at the Centre and the AIADMK regime,” he charged.
Mr. Stalin said the first bad impression was created when the EC decided not to hold elections to Ottapidaram, Tirupparankundram and Aravakurichi Assembly seats even though there was no court stay. “Now the CEO has rolled out the red carpet to the AIADMK government, which has decided to retain Mr. Rajendran in the DGP post despite CBI raids on his residence in connection with the gutkha scam,” he alleged.
