Stalin demands dismissalof Health Minister

Says there is complete breakdown of administration

DMK president M.K. Stalin on Sunday demanded the dismissal of Health Minister C. Vijaya Baskar and transfer of Health Secretary J. Radhakrishnan, saying that there was a complete breakdown of administration in the health department.

In a statement issued in Chennai, he said the transfusion of HIV-infected blood to a pregnant woman at the Sattur Government Hospital had ruined her life and it was a shame for the AIADMK government.

“The youth who donated blood has also committed suicide. The Health Department is out of track and the Minister should be dismissed and the Secretary who is holding the post for six years should be replaced with an efficient official,” he said.

The DMK leader alleged that the incident had happened three days after Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami declared that his government would create an AIDS-free Tamil Nadu.

Mr. Stalin said though the incident had shocked everyone, the government was behaving as if nothing happened.
