Special panel to aid Staff Rationalisation Committee

The State government has constituted a panel of officers with expertise in e-office administration to assist the one-man Staff Rationalisation Committee (SRC).

The Secretary of the Information Technology Department would be the ex-officio chairperson of the nine-member panel. Three IAS officers — Rajendra Kumar (Industries Commissioner), Kumar Jayant (Secretary, Cooperation Department) and Santhosh Babu (Chairman and Managing Director, Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation) — have been included in the panel.

The Secretary (Expenditure), Finance; the Secretary, Personnel and Administrative Reforms; the Commissioner of e-governance; the Managing Director of the Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (Elcot) Ltd; and the State Informatics Officer in the National Informatics Centre (NIC) are the ex-officio members in the panel.

Competent officers

At a meeting in May, the panel’s formation was decided by identifying three to four competent officers familiar with e-governance initiatives and have worked on e-administration.

The State constituted the SRC in February to review the staff structure in various departments and identify non-essential posts to reduce expenditure.

Though its term expired in July, the State extended it by three months. It was also asked to identify posts which could be outsourced or filled through contract appointment.
