Special cover for World Post Day

A special cover and special cancellation to mark 50 years of World Post Day was released by Governor Banwarilal Purohit at an event organised by the Department of Posts, on Tuesday. The governor also presented the Dak Sewa awards 2019 to eight employees of the Tamil Nadu Postal circle for their work. The awardees, M. Selvajothi, E. Paramasivam, R. Saravanan, M. Kulandairaj, N. Karthikeya, R. Ganapathi Swaminathan, K. Mohandoss and M. Shanti, received a cash prize of ₹5,000 and a citation.

“The Tamil Nadu postal circle has been enthusiastic about adopting and implementing any new scheme introduced by the government of India. In the heads of circle conference which was held a few months ago, the Tamil Nadu postal circle was presented with the ‘Champion of champion’ award for overall best performance,” said M. Sampath, Chief Postmaster General. He said that the TN circle had generated a revenue of ₹1,254 crore for the 2018-19, which was 10% of the total national revenue generated.

A booklet on the Dak Sewa awardees containing information about awardees from 2005 and recipients of the Meghdoot national level awards was released. In his speech, Mr Purohit spoke about how the postal department in India has an all pervading presence and noted that it is the most widely spread out postal system in the world with regard to the number of services.

“The postman is always known to be helpful and this attitude has made him a role model for social service and given the department an iconic position in our nation. Everyone of you in the department, who delivers that extra service to bring a smile on the face of the poor and the needy will experience a happiness which is unique and fulfilling,” he said.

He also congratulated all the awardees who were conferred with the Dak Sewa awards as well as all the employees for their contribution to the department of posts.
