Slain policeman Periapandian remembered

Police personnel and the public on Thursday paid floral tributes to the portrait of Inspector S. Periapandian who died in the line of duty a year ago.

S. Periapandian, 47, was shot dead in a village in Rajasthan while trying to nab the accused involved in the Kolathur pawnshop burglary that took place in November 2017.

He and others were in pursuit of a gang, which stole 3.5 kg of gold jewellery by drilling a hole in the ceiling of the pawnshop.

Periapandian and others received information that the main suspects were holed up in Karolia village in Pali district. While trying to nab the accused, an accidental shot fired by another inspector hit Periapandian.

In memory of the deceased inspector, a pandal was erected specially near the Maduravoyal police station on Thursday and people from all walks of life paid tributes to the slain official his portrait.
