Six children and a 21-year-old woman were injured in a fire accident at the car festival of a church near Gummidipoondi on Sunday.
The villagers were celebrating the annual festival of the Holy Spirit Church in Thokkampur on Sunday and the church car was being taken around the village. Children, who were in the choir, were being taken by a mini vehicle, in which crackers had been stored.
A spark from the fireworks at the festival fell on the crackers, triggering a blast. Six children and the woman, who were in the vehicle, sustained burns. They were rushed to the Government Kilpauk Hospital, where three of them were in a serious condition.
The injured have been identified as Kavya, 9, Sanjay, 8, Dharshini, 10, Arjun, 11, Joseph, 5, Harish Babu, 6, and Farveena, 21.
The Arambakkam police did not register any case as no villager preferred a complaint.
