Short but clear message on paediatric cancer

May 29, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:33 am IST - CHENNAI:

The short film, Odi Vilayadu Papa, narrates the story of Ashwin, 4, whose life takes a turn for the worse when he is diagnosed with blood cancer. However, his parents are unaware that in some cases, paediatric cancers have a better prognosis than some of the adult cancers. In order to raise awareness on this issue, this film, an effort by Sangam, was launched in the city on Thursday at the Cancer Institute.

Commending the work of the crew, V. Shanta, Chairperson, Cancer Institute, said, “We have been trying for 60 years to spread awareness about paediatric cancers, but the effect has been minimal. When a child gets his or her life back, we get a normal person, which is not the case with adults. Thus, more such initiatives need to be taken in this field so that people know that cancer in children is curable.”

Hari Rao, who directed the film, spoke about his motivation, “We want to raise funds through this film and our future undertakings, the proceedings of which will be used to save the lives of suffering children. Even if we can save two lives, our endeavours will be worth it.”

In order to reach out to the masses, the film has been uploaded onto the Ahhaa App and will soon be available on YouTube and Facebook as well.
