Following a public consultation on the pilot project of smart parking management system in Shenoy Nagar on Tuesday, civic body officials planned to permit shopkeepers to reserve parking space near their shops.

This will be implemented on a pilot basis in Anna Nagar.

730 slots earmarked

The areas include Anna Nagar Fourth Avenue, Second Avenue, Third Avenue and Eighteenth Main Road. The civic body has also identified 500 parking slots along the Marina. Besant Avenue, Besant Nagar Second Avenue, Third Avenue and Seventh Avenue in Besant Nagar will get 440 parking slots.

“The vendor will be permitted to collect premium parking charges in locations having high demand for parking space. The new system will be launched in two months,” said an official.

Corporation officials said at least 20 traders participated in the public consultation in Anna Nagar on Tuesday.

Not aware, say traders

However, most of the traders said they were not aware of the consultation on the parking management system in Anna Nagar.

Anna Nagar Merchant Welfare Association president R. Arokiam said they were supporting all initiatives of the Corporation and the traffic police.
