: Anna Nagar police on Thursday arrested seven persons who stabbed a 24-year-old youth in full public glare on Wednesday.
Adityan, 24, of TV Nagar in Thirumangalam, was supplying water cans to residents of his area. On Wednesday morning, when he was in the 3rd Avenue of Anna Nagar near Aminjikarai police station, a gang of seven waylaid him and attacked him with iron rods before stabbing him to death. The gang fled the spot.
Police suspected Sandeepkumar, 25, of NSK Nagar in Arumbakkam, to be behind the murder and nabbed him. A special team led by Anna Nagar Inspector M. Saravanan was formed to trace the other accused. The team apprehended six more persons involved in the crime within 24-hours.
The investigation revealed that the deceased Adityan and his associates had beaten up Sandeepkumar and humiliated him in public. Adityan openly swore that he would not spare Sandeepkumar and his brother Rajkumar and threatened to kill them, the police said.
So Sandeepkumar decided to kill Adityan, police said. Police produced Sandeepkumar, 25, Murugan, 24, Karthi, 23, and others before a Metropolitan magistrate and remanded them in judicial custody.
