Naam Tamizhar Katchi leader S. Seeman, 48, has moved the Madras High Court seeking anticipatory bail in an attempt-to-murder case booked against him at the Triplicane police station for allegedly assaulting policemen during an agitation held against conducting Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket match at Chepauk on April 10.

His petition stated that the case against him had been booked under various provisions including Sections 148 (rioting with deadly weapons), 341 (wrongful restraint), 294b (uttering obscene words), 324 (causing hurt), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant), 307 (attempt to murder) and 506 part II (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.

According to him, the case of the prosecution was that he had gone to the venue of the cricket match and raised slogans demanding establishment of Cauvery Water Management Board when a quarrel arose between him and the police. Claiming to be an innocent who had nothing do with the alleged offence, he said the case had been foisted on him for participating in the agitation.

“The petitioner/accused humbly submits that he is ready and willing to furnish sureties and abide by any condition imposed by this honourable court. The petitioner/accused humbly submits that the co-accused in this case were released on bail by the Principal Sessions Judge, Chennai on April 13, 2018,” Mr. SeEeman said and sought for advance bail in the event of his arrest.
