Security was enhanced at the U.S. Consulate here following a threat received by email that explosions would take place at the US Embassy in New Delhi and Consulates in Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai.
The email was forwarded to the Consulate authorities here from one of their establishments in Bangalore.
“It was mentioned that explosions would take place in the US Embassy and Consulates between May 26 and 28 causing loss to life and property. We have stepped up security arrangements at the Consulate in Chennai,” Assistant Commissioner of Police (Royapettah) P. Vasantha Kumari said.
A copy of the email was forwarded to the Cyber Crime Cell of the Central Crime Branch for further investigation.
