An 18-year-old plus-two student riding a motorcycle was run over by an MTC bus after he was knocked down by another motorcycle on Wednesday.

The police said Alagu Sundaram, a resident of MMDA Colony, was a student in a private school near his house. His father Amuthan, runs a hotel in the MMDA colony.

He took his uncle’s motorcycle to an ATM kiosk located a few hundred metres from his house, to withdraw ₹20,000 to pay his fees. On his way back, he tried to overtake an MTC bus near the MMDA post office. “It is a two-way road and as he overtook the bus, another motorcycle coming in the opposite direction knocked his vehicle down,” said a senior police officer. He fell on the road and came under the wheels of the bus. “The driver did not even bother to stop but drove away from the spot as if nothing had happened,” said a senior police officer.

The teenager died on the spot and his body was taken to the Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem. The Anna Nagar police registered a case and checked the CCTV footage from the locality. “We have identified the motorcycle rider and the bus driver. We will arrest them soon,” added the officer. The police confirmed that the boy did not have a driving licence despite being 18 years old.
