Run inside Vandalur Zoo on October 5

Proceeds will go towards animal welfare

Lace your shoes and run listening to the chirping birds, the roar of the lions and tigers.

For the first time, the State Forest Department is organising a run inside the Vandalur Zoo on October 5 as part of the Wildlife Week Celebrations.

The ‘Vandalur Zoo’s Wild Run’ is a 5 k.m. run inside the zoo campus. The reporting time for the event is 6 a.m. and the run will start at 7 a.m. inside the Arignar Anna Zoological Park (AAZP), Vandalur, Chennai. The registration fee for the event is ₹800.

“The wildlife week celebrations will be held from October 2 to October 8. The registration amount will go towards the welfare of the animals. We arrived at such an event as people are running for different causes. However running on the road for animals will not create an impact. Hence we decided to have it inside the zoo,” said AAZP deputy director Sudha Ramen. However, there is no compromise on safety of animals. “Only around 1,000 people can take part in the run. No flashy t-shirts will be allowed and there will be no music or audio systems. The runners will have to adhere to all the rules inside the zoo,” she said.

Registration closes by September 20, 2019.
