Cash to the tune of Rs. 32 lakh was stolen from a house in Vengaivaasal near Tambaram. The crime came to light when the inhabitants of the house returned from a visit to a temple on Monday morning. According to Selaiyur police, Sivakumar (33), a builder, had sold a piece of land in Tiruvallur district. He had kept the money at his home.

On Saturday, he went to Tiruchendur, after locking his home, to offer prayers at the Subramanya Swamy Temple. He returned on Monday morning and found the house ransacked.

Police said burglars gained entry by breaking open the steel grille gate and wooden door at the back of the house. They took away the cash, a couple of LPG cylinders and a laptop. However, Rs. 1 lakh inside the laptop bag was intact.
