Rotary Club of Madras presents awards

Individual achievers, NGO honoured

The Rotary Club of Madras Temple City on Saturday presented awards to three individual achievers and an NGO under chosen categories.

Vineet Narain, a journalist, received the Lifetime Achievement Award; Thomas Jeyeraj Fernando, an illustrator, received For the Sake of Honour Award; A. Purushothaman, a traffic police officer and a body builder, received the Vocational Service Award and Maya Eashwar, honorary secretary of the Seva Samajam, received the Community Service Award for the NGO.

N. Murali, chairman, Kasturi and Sons Ltd., the chief guest, and Rotarian Babu Peram, district governor of region 3232 and the guest of honour, felicitated the awardees.

‘Commendable work’

“Rotary is also working on desilting waterbodies and improving groundwater levels, which is very commendable. We need many such organisations to tackle issues affecting the people,” said Mr. Murali. “These awards are not just given by the Rotary Club of Madras Temple City, it represents the Rotary International,” said Mr. Peram.
