Rotary awards four city personalities

Governor K. Rosaiah, on Tuesday, commended Rotary International’s contribution in making India a polio-free nation.

Speaking at an awards function organised by Rotary Club of Madras-Chenna Patna to honour four distinguished persons from varied fields, he said the ‘service above self’ of the 34,600 clubs and 1.2 million members across the globe had made this possible.

He appreciated Rotary Club of Madras-Chenna Patna for its youth-related activities, including organising youth leadership award camps and career guidance programmes.

Mr. Rosaiah presented the Vocational Excellence award to Margarette Davidraj, senior principal, Bhaktavatsalam Vidyashram; the Distinguished Service award to S. Elango, deputy inspector-general, Central Reserve Police Force, Avadi; the Excellence in Journalism award to V. Jayanth, senior managing editor, The Hindu ; and the Young Achiever Award to G. Sathiyan, national table tennis champion.

Club president, A.V.S. Rau, and Rotary International district 3230 district governor-elect, C.R. Raju, were also present on the occasion.
