A revenue official attached to Tambaram Revenue Division was reportedly threatened for questioning illegal land-filling on ‘poromboke land’ adjacent to Gowriwakkam lake, under Sembakkam Municipality.
D. Gomathi, Sembakkam village administrative officer, in her complaint to Selaiyur police, stated that she received information that some people are attempting to encroach on the ‘poromboke' land in survey number 69 of Gowriwakkam village.
When she visited the place on Tuesday, a lorry was found at the said site filling sand. As she was questioning the lorry driver, two men, Appadurai and Manohar, allegedly owing allegiance to a political party, prevented her from executing the official work.
A quarrel broke out and in the melee the accused allegedly threatened the VAO with dire consequences, if she interfered.
After waiting for things to cool down, she went ahead with her work.
Police complaint filed
She was once again abused by the duo, after which she filed a complaint with Selaiyur police, who commissioned an inquest into the incident.
