Residents protest

January 20, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 09:31 am IST - CHENNAI:

A group of 60 residents staged a protest at the office of the assistant commissioner of civil supplies in St. Thomas Mount on Monday.

Residents said the department had conducted a consumer grievances redressal camp at Hasthinapuram on January 10. They had applied for new ration cards and officials at the camp assured them they would be issued to them at the AC’s office.

However, on Monday, the applicants were reportedly told to contact the respective ward councillors. Senior officials then assured the residents the cards would be issued at the camp site or the AC’s office.
