Residents of Sivagamipuram in Thiruvanmiyur have made a request to the Greater Chennai Corporation to reduce the area of a composting unit on the premises a roadside park at Sivagamipuram. There are three pits of which one is made with bamboo poles and the others, with cement rings. N. Pandian, a resident of the locality, says, “The withered leaves and flowers at the park are composted in these pits. A large space of the park has been taken for the composting unit. Therefore, the walkers area has been reduced considerably. It is the only park in the neighbourhood. Therefore, the composting units should be resized. Despite several representations to the Corporation, the needful has not been done.”

Residents suggest one pit is more than enough for composting as it is just a 500 sqft park which has a neem tree and a few plants.
