The city could see a repeat of the December 2015 floods if the fly ash at Ennore creek is not removed and the site remediated as the wetland is important for flood prevention, experts and a team of fishermen from Kerala who visited the creek said.
It was the unrestrained conversion of rice paddies and wetlands into real estate that led to the Kerala floods, said T. Peter of the Kerala Swatantra Matsya Thozilaligal Sangam at a press conference.“We see the same pattern in the Ennore creek,” he said.
The team which visited the site said that clearing the fly ash is important.
