Commuters boarding MTC buses at the Urapakkam bus stop have requested police personnel attached to H2 Guduvanchery police station to remove the barricades at the intersection of Ayyanchery Main Road and Grand Southern Trunk (GST) Road, Urapakkam.

The barricades were placed to prevent motorists from GST Road entering the service lane suddenly.

With the presence of the barricades, the MTC buses could not halt at the bus stop, which is located on the service lane.

At present, MTC drivers halt the buses on GST Road, forcing commuters to wait in the middle of the arterial stretch to board their route numbers.

Besides, shareautorickshaw drivers park their vehicles near the bus stop, wooing commuters.

“Drivers of private companies and educational institutions wait at the bus stop to pick up and drop the staff and students. In addition, the bus stop near the the service lane is now home to beggars and tipplers. As a result, a few MTC bus drivers stop much ahead of the bus stop or skip the bus stop, leaving commuters in lurch. At times, motorists from Ayyanchery Main Road take a free left turn towards GST Road, hindering traffic movement near the intersection,” says M. Prabhakaran, a resident of Kilambakkam.
