Reaching out to BJP

May 20, 2015 12:00 am | Updated April 02, 2016 11:01 pm IST - Chennai:

BJP leaders from New Delhi are likely to attend Jayalalithaa’s swearing-in ceremony.

Sources in the AIADMK said that the party has reached out to some senior leaders in the BJP in New Delhi, reportedly inviting them to attend the swearing-in ceremony of AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa as Chief Minister, scheduled a day after the legislature party meeting.

While a senior BJP leader in Tamil Nadu told The Hindu that “invitations have been sent to BJP leaders, including Finance Minister Arun Jaitley,” the BJP sources in New Delhi said that some senior leaders are likely to attend the swearing-in ceremony but a final decision would be taken only after formal invitations were received.

Meanwhile, residents of R.K. Nagar constituency in Chennai are waiting for the by-poll in which Ms. Jayalalithaa is expected to contest.

Posters

Already posters have sprung up in the constituency, one of the smallest area-wise and with a sizable slum population that has been well nurtured by the party MLAs in the past, said sources.
