The ‘Rasigan Express' bus, which would tour the State in connection with the fifth edition of the ‘Close Up Vijay Awards', was flagged off at the AVM studios here on Friday.

Tamil Film Producers' Council president S.A. Chandrasekar, film producer AVM Saravanan, director A.R. Murugadoss and actor Lissy Priyadarshan were present at the event. Speakers commended Vijay TV for its original ideas and creative attempts in the television space.

Film buffs would be given a ballot paper in which they could indicate who they deem fit for the award in five categories — favourite actor, favourite actress, favourite film, favourite director and favourite song.

The bus will travel across the State.

For the nearly 30 other categories of the awards, a jury comprising actors Yugi Sethu, Radikaa Sarathkumar, Karthik, director A. R. Murugadoss and cinematographer Ravi. K. Chandran will select the recipients.

K.Sriram, general manager, Vijay TV, said the annual Vijay Awards event had gained popularity over the last few years. Speaking on other initiatives of the television channel, he said it was bringing back shows in the comedy genre, in which the channel is considered a pioneer.

“We are also bringing back Jodi No. 1 with a new concept. ‘Ungalil Yaar Adutha Prabhu Deva' will follow soon after. In the fiction genre, we are looking at a story that revolves around college life, the excitement, relationships and politics there,” he said.

With its reach to the U.K., Australia and New Zealand in the testing phase, the channel is all set to expand , Mr.Sriram said.
