Actor and founder of Makkal Needhi Maiam, Kamal Haasan greets S. Gurumurthy, Editor, Thuglak at the FICCI National Executive Committee Meeting on Wednesday.

“There is a leadership vacuum in Tamil Nadu which I think actor Rajinikanth can fill,” said S. Gurumurthy, Editor, Thughlak on Wednesday. He was speaking to the media on the sidelines of a special session as part of the FICCI National Executive Committee meeting in the city.

Responding to questions about Mr. Rajinikanth’s entry into politics, Mr. Gurumurthy said that the State was in need of a leader. “I feel that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administrative acumen coupled with the pull Rajinikanth has among the masses will work for the State,” he said.

“No MLA at present is prepared to face the elections and only if they see any other government or leader who they deem fit, will the question of the current government falling even arise,” he said, when asked about the current political situation in the State.

As a part of the FICCI session, Mr. Gurumurthy shared his views on demonetisation and GST.

Here to challenge: Kamal

In an earlier session, Kamal Haasan, actor and founder of Makkal Needhi Maiam addressed members of the FICCI on his party’s stand on policies regarding industries in Tamil Nadu. “Small entrepreneurs can do a lot to contribute to the development of the State. Businesses which have already established themselves too should focus on how to increase employment and we should insist that our government pitches in,” he said.

With regard to his party, the actor said that all industries, whether big or small, should work within the ethical limits of the land and that they would be ready to facilitate their development and expansion.

Mr. Haasan said that he had made an entry into politics to challenge the status quo and to do away with the stagnancy. “I want to show people that integrity and honesty has a place in the Assembly,” he said.
