The Chennai Rainbow Pride Parade 2019 on Sunday afternoon added colours to the skies over Egmore with a sea of rainbow flags and banners.
Members of the LGBTQ+ (Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Queer) community as well as their friends joined them in a march.
Equality for all
June is observed as Pride Month world over, and pride parades are held across the world. Banners reading “I refuse to be invisible”; “Everyone deserves equality”; and “Straight, but not narrow”, were carried by participants at the parade.
Several of them said it was important to create awareness about the rights of the LGBTQ+ community. The pride parade gave them an opportunity to come together and celebrate their identity.
The crowd that gathered for the march broke into a dance, often accompanied by music, and posed for photos.
Some brought their pets that were wearing small bows or leashes in rainbow colours.
