Do you know what a holoalphabetic sentence is? It is one in which every letter of the alphabet is used — for example: quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.

This was one of the questions shot at the six teams at the junior-level The HinduYoung World quiz competition at Kamarajar Arangam on Wednesday. The event was sponsored by Britannia, FireFox cycles, Nathella Vidhyodaya and Kalasalingam University. From cartoons to science and history, the students were quizzed on a variety of subjects at the 15th edition of the competition.

In the final round of the junior level, the competition heated up as participants were tested in different categories such as – do you know, question the quizmaster, photo play, Jaihind and sight and sound. Some of the interesting questions posed were Who is Francis Scott; What is Gail and Which food preparation has theobromine.

The hall was packed with school students, who could barely contain their excitement when they knew answers to the questions posed by the quizmaster. Some even ran up to the stage shouting answers for questions that might even have had adults stumped.

R. Mithun Krishna of class VI and Venkata Sai Adarsh of class VIII from St. Patrick Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Puducherry, bagged the first place. The sub-junior level quiz competition was won by class IV students of National Public School — Aditya S. and Vidyath M.

“More than 100 schools participated in the junior and the sub-junior categories. Though we have been conducting the quiz competition since 2000, this is the first time we are organising it for sub-juniors,” said V.V. Ramanan, the quizmaster.

Sudha Ragunathan distributed trophies, certificates and cycles to the winners. V. Ramesh, regional manufacturing head, Britannia, was also present.
