NLC India Limited, formerly known as Neyveli Lignite Corporation, will create course content on power generation, mining and the renewable energy sector.

NLCIL has signed an agreement with the National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) and will co-offer courses related to its domain. It is the first Central government PSU to become NPTEL’s industry associate.

“We hope this partnership will pave the way for more PSUs recognising the potential of our courses and encourage them to partner with us and use these to motivate their employees to embark on a journey of lifelong learning anywhere, anytime,” said NPTEL’s coordinator Prathap Haridoss, of IIT Madras.

NPTEL has been delivering open online courses for certification since 2014. It is offering 270 courses this semester and more than 1.6 lakh candidates registered for exams in October 2018.

NPTEL partners with more than 2,020 colleges, who have formed NPTEL local chapters.

NPTEL flagged off the Industry Associate initiative in January 2018, with no financials involved. Companies such as IBM, Infosys, Aricent Technologies and Glass Academy have started partnering with NPTEL in the last few months, according to a release.
