Now, you can trace parcels and direct your queries on products that you ordered online at the 24x7 customer care centre that will soon be opened at the Anna Road head post office.
With the patronage for e-commerce services growing, the Department of Posts plans to open the centre to help customers clarify their queries regarding products ordered online, parcels, speed posts and international articles.
The department has tied up with nearly 30 online shopping sites, including Amazon and Snapdeal. Flipkart and Naaptol, who are soon to set up their warehouses in Chennai, are expected to join hands with the postal department soon.
As of now, nearly 3,000 products ordered online are being delivered daily.
The volume has increased by 40 per cent compared to last year, said postal officials.
“Nearly 95 per cent of the products get delivered on the same day now. We are planning to increase delivery on the same day of order to 98 per cent. Our strength is the widespread reach of post offices, particularly in places like IT companies where entry is restricted,” said Subhash C. Barmma, postmaster general (mails and marketing).
SMS service
The department has also recently introduced a text message service wherein customers will be informed of product delivery by the postal staff members. The St. Thomas Mount post office also has a helpline for customers.
In Chennai and its suburbs, about nearly 2,300 postmen, postwomen and gram dak sevaks (who are part-time staff members) attached to 110 post offices are engaged in delivering goods through various modes, including cash-on-delivery.
