Chain-snatching incidents reduced drastically in the city over the past two years due to consistent preventive action such as installation of CCTV cameras and visible policing, said the city police.
According to statistics, there were 615 cases of snatching reported in 2017, which came down to to 443 in 2018.
“There is a sense of security in the minds of the people who live in the city. We give much more importance to that and we are consistently working to provide such atmosphere in the city,” said City Police Commissioner A.K. Viswanathan, while releasing a CD on the importance of CCTV cameras on Saturday. The CD was received by former world chess champion Viswanathan Anand.
In the promotional video, Mr. Anand stresses the importance of CCTV cameras in crime prevention and detection.
