The Palavanthangal police on Saturday arrested four men and remanded them in judicial custody on charge of kidnapping a youth, who helped his friend marry the daughter of one of the accused.

According to the police, Manoj Kumar, a car driver, was in love with a 19-year-old gir who was studying B. Com second year in a city college.

Chellapandian, father of the girl, did not accept their relationship and sent her to Tirunelveli.

A fortnight ago, when she returned to the city, she took refuge in the Madipakkam police station along with Mr. Kumar, with the help of their friend, Abishek, 21, a resident of Palavanthangal.

As the girl was a major, the police did not object to the marriage and the couple left the place.

Angered by this, Chellapandian and three of his relatives abducted Mr. Abishek on Friday and took him to a place in Moovarasanpet.

Based on a complaint from Mr. Abishek’s father, the police rescued him and arrested Chellapandian and his three relatives.
