Five accused, including a woman DMK functionary, surrendered before a Saidapet court on Tuesday in connection with the murder of a DMK ward member in Naduveerapattu village, near Padappai, in Kancheepuram on Monday.

Police said the victim Sathish, 31, a DMK ward member of Naduveerapattu village, and the accused, Logeshwari alias Esther, 45, also a DMK functionary, had enmity since the former had lodged a complaint against the latter for illegally selling liquor at higher prices after procuring it from a Tasmac outlet. One of her associates called Sathish to her house on the pretext of settling their dispute amicably. Once Satish arrived, Logeshwari and her associates allegedly hacked him to death and dumped the body in a nearby area on Monday.

The Somangalam police recovered the body and began investing. Esther and her associates escaped before surrendering.
