Police file case against construction firm

Doctor alleges he has been cheated

The Central Crime Branch (CCB) of the city police booked a criminal case against a construction firm in T. Nagar for allegedly cheating a cardiologist after receiving a huge sum for the sale of two luxurious flats in Mogappair.

K. Velmurugan, a cardiologist, and his wife Rajarajeshwari, also a doctor, residing in Nolambur, entered into an agreement with the construction firm BBCL in Mogappair in 2014 for buying two luxury flats for ₹1.55 crore each.

Dr. Velmurugan availed a loan from a bank and has been paying a monthly instalment of ₹1.05 lakh for the past five years.

Dr. Velmurugan said the builder promised to hand over the completed flat on or before January 2016, with a grace period of three months.

Dr. Velmurugan said more than 90% of the amount was received by the builder, but he had not completed the construction of the flat. The CCB registered a case against Vummidi Ananth, BBCL director, under Section 420 (Cheating) of the IPC .
