The telephone lines of the Institute of Distance Education (IDE), University of Madras, have been inaccessible for many days now.
Jivesh Raman, a candidate, said the numbers on the website have not been working for several days.
“None of the phone lines are working. One phone line got connected but no one answered the call. It has been very difficult to connect with the IDE officials,” he said.
He added that there has been no response to his e-mails either.
Landlines inaccessible
The IDE has listed 10 landline numbers and none of them could be accessed. When pointed out that the numbers were not going through, an official admitted that there was a fault and it could take some days to set right.
Efforts to call the landline of the IDE public relations officer also was unsuccessful, and the website of the IDE remained inaccessible through the day.
‘Server down’
When contacted, IDE director K. Ravichandran said the server was down and IBM engineers were working to set it right.
“There is a fault in the landlines. We have lodged a complaint with BSNL. It will be rectified by tonight,” he said.
“The IDE director’s email is working and we check it every day. My landline number is also working,” he added.
