Philanthropist’s birth centenary celebrated

January 25, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - CHENNAI:

The birth centenary celebration of Kamalnayan Bajaj, industrialist and philanthropist, was organised by Sankara Nethralaya on Friday.

Gopalkrishna Gandhi, former governor of West Bengal, said that in the bygone era — marked by political integrity and non-opportunistic philanthropy — people might have differed on issues and questioned their leaders, but they remained united.

Mr. Gandhi also described S.S. Badrinath, chairman emeritus of Sankara Nethralaya, as a ‘phenomenal visionary of our times’.

Ronnie George, senior glaucoma consultant and director-research of Kamalnayan Bajaj Institute for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, spoke about the facilities at the institute.

Rahul Bajaj, head of the Bajaj Group and son of Kamalnayan Bajaj, and Dr. Badrinath were among the others who spoke at the function.
