Despite the superstar not being present in Chennai, Rajinikanth fans had reason to cheer as the teaser of his next, Petta , produced by Sun Pictures and directed by Karthik Subbaraj, was released on his birthday. The film, that has been slated for a Pongal release, is likely to clash with actor Ajith Kumar’s Viswasam .
With Petta’s teaser delivering what filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj seems to have promised — to bring back the ‘old Rajinikanth’ that fans enjoyed in films like Baasha and Padayappa — the film’s release is eagerly awaited by the actor’s fans.
Fans’ expectations
After having announced that he would contest the next State Assembly elections 12 months ago, Rajinikanth fans and fan clubs were expecting much more this year on his birthday.
The fans, as usual, organised small celebrations across Tamil Nadu and elsewhere to celebrate his birthday.
Over the last few weeks, Rajini Makkal Mandram members have involved themselves in providing relief in districts affected by Cyclone Gaja. The organisation that is aimed at mobilising and streamlining Rajinikanth’s fan clubs, was launched as a precursor to his yet-to-be launched political party.
