Perumbakkam federation persists with old demand

It points out that though the panchayat has passed a resolution to improve the roads in the locality, the work has not started due to “fund crunch”

The Federation of Perumbakkam Residents’ Welfare Associations once again draws attention to a long-standing need: Road re-laying work in old areas and road-laying work in the newly-developed areas.

Federation secretary NK Raja points out that in October 2020 and January 2021, the Federation made a representation to the Perumbakkam village panchayat seeking that roads in Nesamani Nagar be relaid.

“Nesamani Nagar Second Street and Sixth Street have to be relaid. The former received concrete surface over five years ago. In newly-developed areas, roads have not been laid till date. The Panchayat passed a resolution about this in a recent meeting, but it has not translated into action,” says Raja.

The federation secretary recalls how following the Federation’s requests and follow-ups with the CM’s Cell, roads in Golden Castle Layout and Nesamani Nagar Ninth Street in May 2020, were relaid.

“The Panchayat cites fund crunch for the delay in carrying out pending road work,”says Raja. “We request the Department of Panchayat Administration to allocate the necessary funds for the road work.”

A Perumbakkam panchayat official says, “The issue will be taken with the Block Development Officer in St. Thomas Mount Panchayat Union.”
