‘Increase the time limit at the crossing’

Pedestrians at NSC Bose Road want the green light to glow for a few seconds longer

What’s the ideal pedestrian crossing time at a traffic signal for people to cross the road? At traffic signals with a pedestrian crossing, it starts from two seconds. The duration increases depending on the volume of pedestrian traffic crossing the road.

A section of people want the time increased at the intersection of Esplande Road, NSC Bose Road and Prakasam Salai and also at NSC Bose Road and Prakasam Salai and Broadway junction.

According to a few pedestrians, the crossing time currently is less than five seconds. They want this to be increased as the time is insufficient to cross to the other end of the road. Also, there are many pedestrians rushing to get to the opposite sides.

It is a common sight to see pedestrians stopping vehicles to get to the other side of the road.

At the intersection of Esplande Road, NSC Bose Road and Prakasam Salai, pedestrians have to cross two lanes on NSC Bose Road when crossing the intersection from NSC Bose Road and Prakasam Salai and NSC Bose Road and Esplande Road.

“The lanes of NSC Bose Road are wide, so it’s tough to cross the two lanes in the stipulated time limit,” said R. Ismail, a resident of George Town.

“The traffic police personnel are also of little help.”
