Parks sought in Thalambur and Semmenchery

Residents of Gandhi Nagar have sought that five parcels of land earmarked for park-creation be developed towards their intended purpose.

Parts of Gandhi Nagar lie in Semmenchery, which comes under Greater Chennai Corporation. There are other parts of Gandhi Nagar that lie with Thalambur Panchayat limits.

Four of these land blocks lie in Thalambur and one in Semmenchery. None of them has been developed so far.

Gandhi Nagar was developed 15 years ago and is today a bustling locality. Despite this, it lacks basic amenities such as parks and good roads. In contrast, nearby areas – Karanai and Navalur – have been provided with parks.

Seeking development of these lands, Gandhi Nagar Plot Owners Welfare Association has given a representation to Kancheepuram District Collectorate; Block Development Officer – Thiruporur; Thiruporur Tahsildhar and Zone 15 office of the Greater Chennai Corporation.

“Three of the four land blocks in Thalambur panchayat earmarked for creation of parks are now serving other purposes. One of them is being used to park private vehicles. Another has been turned into a dumping ground for construction rubble. Sheds have come up on another,” says Gomathi Nayagam, secretary, Gandhi Nagar Plot Owners Welfare Association.
