Paid holiday on June 27

The Tamil Nadu government on Tuesday directed industrial and commercial establishments in Chennai to grant paid holiday on June 27 for employees to cast their votes in the Dr. Radhakrishnan Nagar by-poll.

A per the provisions of Section 135B of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 and instructions issued by the EC, the employers of industrial, commercial and catering establishments (including IT/BPO sector), shops, factories, and motor transport undertakings in Chennai would have to grant holiday with wages.

The wages should be given to all the employees as per the voters list (including the daily wage / casual / contract workers), the release said.
