Only nine districts log fresh COVID-19 infections in Tamil Nadu

35 persons test positive across the State

Fresh COVID-19 infections were reported only in nine of the 38 districts in Tamil Nadu on Thursday.

A total of 35 persons tested positive for the infection, while the State continued to report nil deaths due to COVID-19.

The fresh cases remained in double digits in Chennai with 17 persons testing positive. The city’s overall tally stood at 7,51,086. Coimbatore and Kancheepuram logged four fresh cases each and Chengalpattu, Salem, Tiruvallur and Vellore reported two cases each. Karur and Namakkal registered one case each.

The State has so far reported 34,52,825 cases and the toll stood at 38,025. With 51 persons discharged after treatment, the total number of recoveries reached 34,14,494. Presently, there were 306 persons under treatment in the State. Of this, there were 131 active cases in Chennai, while Chengalpattu and Coimbatore had 32 and 22 cases each. While seven districts had no active cases, 23 districts had fewer than 10 active cases each. As many as 29,858 samples were tested. The total number of samples tested till date was 6,55,97,835. The overall test positivity rate stood at 0.1%.

Vaccination count

A total of 63,861 persons were vaccinated across the State on Thursday. This took the overall coverage of government vaccination centres to 10,16,88,617. Among those vaccinated were 32,846 children aged 12-14 and 13,253 persons aged 18-44. With this, both government and private vaccination centres accounted for a coverage of 10,46,65,564. A total of 7,29,060 precautionary doses were administered in the State, the daily report issued by the Directorate of Public Health and Preventive Medicine said.
