Jayalalithaa acquittal: Online activity of AIADMK cadre surges

May 12, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 08:42 am IST - CHENNAI:

For AIADMK cadre, the celebrations following former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s acquittal continued all through the day on Monday. Along with the bursting of crackers, and the dancing on the street, the IT wing of the party ensured that the celebrations extended online as well.

Within half-an-hour of the news of acquittal, the party website’s homepage had a picture of Ms. Jayalalithaa and digital fireworks in the background, accompanied by a jingle “ Amma Varuga Varuga,” celebrating her return. The party’s Facebook page, too, was updated as soon as the news of her release reached.

The team also started circulating videos on WhatsApp, one with the “ Amma Varuga Varuga” jingle, and the other with various clippings of the AIADMK chief.

The IT team has been working on the website, Facebook and the WhatsApp content since Saturday. “Now, based on our leader’s release, we are developing more videos and website content,” Aspire K. Swaminathan, secretary of AIADMK’s IT wing said. The WhatsApp messages have reportedly gone out to around 15,00,000 people across the State.
