Nearly 800 teachers took the CENTA Teaching Professionals’ Olympiad (TPO) in the city on Saturday.
The Olympiad, which aims to recognise, reward and celebrate teachers as well as give them constructive feedback leading to professional development, saw nearly 15,000 teachers across the country take it up.
“At the national level, it gives teachers an idea of where they stand and the benchmarking shows that they are not working in isolation but as a community. Taking up an Olympiad like this also acts as a self-reflection tool for the teachers as they can look at where they can upgrade themselves and what else they can take to their classroom,” said Anjali Jain, Founder and Director of CENTA. The multiple choice test, which is taken online, has a combination of questions pertaining to different subjects, concepts as well as classroom teaching methods. “We’ve increased the subjects to 20 as well as have a wider coverage of regional languages. The teachers from government schools too has been increasing,” Ms Anjali added.
Vinusha Venkatesh, a teacher in the city, said she had enrolled for the test for the second year . “The TPO has basically helped me assess where I stand as well as reflect on classroom practices,” she said.
Stating that the test helped her gain better insight and work on her subject knowledge more, R. Amudha, another teacher, added she had picked up useful pointers about classroom management.
“For us, it is a process of ensuring that we constantly update ourselves and getting certifications or coming together for something like this aids in the process,” she added.
