‘Nuclear energy best option for 24x7 power’

The former chairman of Atomic Energy Regulatory Board was speaking at IGCAR

Nuclear Energy is the best option for 24x7, 365 days power and is devoid of green house gas emissions with minimum waste generation, S.A. Bhardwaj, former chairman, Atomic Energy Regulatory Board, said.

Speaking during the Graduation Day of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre Training school at the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR) campus at Kalpakkam on Monday, Mr. Bhardwaj said people need not have apprehensions about ionizing radiation. Mr. Bhardwaj highlighted they were an essential and indispensable part of everyday life, finding applications in medicine and industry.

Dr. Arun Kumar Bhaduri, Director, IGCAR, advised students not to focus just on R&D, but focus on Research, Design and Development (RD &D). The 13th batch saw 23 trainee Scientific Officers graduating from five disciplines, including the newly introduced training programme in Fast Reactor Engineering, a press release said.
