Chennai Smart City Ltd. on Monday approved the proposal for redevelopment and redesign of feeder roads to Pondy Bazaar in T. Nagar, paving the way for creation of additional parking space in the commercial hub.

A total of 2,200 parking spaces are likely to be earmarked along the feeder roads to Pondy Bazaar and other stretches in T. Nagar. “The work will begin in March,” said an official.

The proposal for smart improvement of 14 feeder roads to Theyagaraya pedestrian plaza in Pondy Bazaar is estimated to cost ₹5.34 crore. Chennai Corporation will complete the pedestrian plaza work along Theyagaraya Road next month. “During the construction, motorists and shopowners have complained about difficulty in parking vehicles on Theyagaraya Road. The Association of Pondy Bazzar Shopowners has also made a representation for parking arrangements for customers,” the official said.
