Over 1,200 people have so far booked for water tankers online on the Chennai Metro Water’s website. Launched on May 8, this online booking facility is being introduced in Chennai for the first time. According to a Metrowater official, 1,200 people have availed the service until May 10.

To start the process, consumers have to click on the ‘Book a Water tanker’ option on the homepage of www.chennaimetrowater.com.

The consumer number or the registered phone number are mandatory fields to book the tanker.

The booking will be confirmed through an SMS to the registered phone number. Once the booking is done, the order is simultaneously forwarded to the Metro Water area engineer. Water is usually supplied within three days of booking, said the official.

Many residents have welcomed the online service as, often, booking through phone (044-4567 4567) takes a long time as the lines are busy. Booking a tanker lorry through Metro Water authorised centres is cheaper than through private tankers.

Residents may contact the Metrowater offices for tanker supply -
