Unauthorised parking on Second Avenue and Seventh Avenue in Besant Nagar is putting pedestrians to a lot of inconvenience.
The wide footpaths on these two roads are always found occupied by cars and two-wheelers. In addition, the footpaths are taken over by commerce, especially sellers of food items, with the result that they are often littered with food leftovers, plates and cups. “The pedestrians are not able to walk without any hindrance. Near the intersection of Second Avenue and First Avenue, there is open urination on the footpath,” says S. Ramani, a resident of Besant Nagar. Besides, motorcyclists can be seen driving on the footpath as the space between every two bollards is wide.
A Greater Chennai Traffic Police official says, “We are working with the Greater Chennai Corporation to curb parking of vehicles.”
