No signals from aircraft

June 19, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:42 am IST - CHENNAI:

Despite a submarine and a hydrographic survey vessel detecting signals during their search, which were “presumably” from Coast Guard’s Dornier CG 791, scientists from NIOT on board ORV Sagar Nidhi could not get confirmatory signals from the beacon of the missing aircraft, a senior Coast Guard official said on Wednesday.

Talking to the press, Coast Guard’s Regional Commander (East), Inspector General Satya Prakash Sharma said the reason behind the delay in locating the aircraft was “purely because we are not getting confirmatory signals from the beacon.”

To a query, he said “we have not sought international assistance because vessels are available for detection ”.
