No footpaths at graveyard

September 19, 2015 12:00 am | Updated March 28, 2016 06:20 pm IST - CHENNAI:

It is not just the Kilpauk cemetery that is grappling with space constraint. Encroachments along the compound wall are eating into the space meant for footpath.

Members of the Madras Cemeteries Board Trust said that as the footpath was yet to be paved, it was convenient for vendors and parking of vehicles. People who attended funerals were forced to walk in the middle of the Kilpauk cemetery road as there was no footpath till the entrance of the cemetery. The other portion of the road had footpath, they said. The trust has represented the problem to Chennai Corporation and suggested that it would construct a footpath and maintain a garden along the walkway if permitted.
