The Tamil Film Producers Council on Monday asked Qube Cinemas Technologies, the company that enables digital distribution to a majority of theatres in South India, not to supply projectors (and other equipment) or release new Tamil films in nine blacklisted theatres present across Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
A few days ago, TFPC requested Qube Cinema Technologies not to supply projectors and other equipment to Murugan Theatre (Krishnagiri, Manusana Nee), Nayanthara (Krishnagiri, Goli Soda 2), Gomathi (Mayiladuthurai, Oru Kuppai Kadhai), Ellora (Karur, Oru Kuppai Kadhai), Padmavathy (Arani Chetpet, Mr. Chandramouli), Kavithalaya (Karur, Thodra and Raja Rangoski), Sathyam (Bangalore, Imaikka Nodigal) and Viruthachalam Theatre, Mangalore Cine Polis (Seema Raja).
The TFPC statement said: “The police have seized the projectors and arrested the persons involved in illegal activities. We have come to understand that even after our repeated requests you have supplied new projectors to theatres enabling them to continue their illegal activities. Your utter disregard to producers’ sentiments and the law in abetting such criminal activities is strongly condemned.”
The TFPC has urged Qube Cinema Technologies not to facilitate release of new films to blacklisted theatres this week. The TFPC also appealed to its members to refrain from releasing their movies in these theatres.
