Oliver Ballhatchet MBE has assumed charge as the new Deputy High Commissioner in Chennai, representing the U.K. in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

An official press release said he succeeded Jeremy Pilmore-Bedford, who served the office for the past one year.

As the Head of the Deputy High Commission in Chennai, Mr. Oliver’s role will include promoting business and trade and strengthening relationships between Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and the U.K.

“The U.K. and India have been among the top five investors in each other’s economies since 2010. Last year, Tamil Nadu alone accounted for a third of all U.K. investment in India. I’m glad to be representing the U.K. at a time when our business relationship in this region is growing,” he said.
